Open Doors in the Middle East

Updated: 3 days ago

Christians in the Middle East have lived with a backdrop of war and extremist violence for over a decade. Now, economic collapse and authoritarian regimes mean believers also face discrimination, isolation, attacks, and threats to their safety. Many Christians have lost homes, jobs, and loved ones to persecution and conflict, while churches have been scattered.

Despite this, God’s people are returning to the region; and your support has helped that happen. Working through local partners, Open Doors provides microloans to help people get back on their feet. These are a lifeline for believers who are shunned by their society, allowed only the lowest or most dangerous jobs, where it’s almost impossible to earn a living.

“The words 'Thank you' are too little. You helped us, stood by us. Your support enabled me to restart my business, to stand back on my feet. Without your help, this would have been impossible.”

— Farah*, hair salon owner.

Meanwhile discipleship training, Bible study and leadership development programs provide vital spiritual support to persecuted Christians, equipping them to develop strategies to remain steadfast in their faith. While we at LifeHouse have access to multiple avenues for spiritual growth, this kind of training is all but unheard of for many Middle Eastern Christians.

“It is a new experience, I’m learning many things. I didn’t know how to live close to the Lord, how to be honest, to read the Bible, to have strength, how to be practical and active within the church.”

— Basim*

Without both practical and spiritual support, Christians like Farah and Basim would not be able to return, rebuild and continue to grow in their faith and share the gospel in this region. Through our partnership with Open Doors, we get to empower and equip these brothers and sisters in Christ – and keep the light of Jesus burning brightly in the darkness.

LifeHouse Church respects and acknowledges the traditional custodians of this land on which we gather, the Gumbaynggirr people, the Bundjalung people, and the Kamilaroi people. We pay our respect to Elders both past, present, and future, and we extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that are here today.
