This year marks a changing of the guard for the Moree Deadly Diamonds, as many of the old crew move out of school and apprenticeships and into jobs that take them further afield.
These young men and women have come a long way, with most coming from extremely challenging situations – yet the encouragement of consistent and godly mentors has empowered them to navigate the pathway to responsible adulthood.
One of these, Jacob, who journeyed through the youth leadership and discipleship programme from the age of 12, was sent off with a commissioning service prior to heading to Brisbane for a year with YWAM. As Diamonds leader Jason Poutawa says,
“It’s great for the Kingdom – but a big loss for Moree!”
In God’s gracious provision and timing though, a new staff member, Jeremiah, joined the team late in 2024 – alongside his other roles as a school chaplain and SRE teacher – while Jess Poutawa has been able to take on a more focused leadership role with the influx of Year 7 & 8 girls who’ve just come on board. These girls have shown a huge heart to give and to grow – as they attend weekly mentorship breakfasts with Jess, then serve up to 85 primary kids each Wednesday at Kids Club.
Moree Generations Pastor
Meanwhile, the search continues for a Generations Pastor to gather and lead the flourishing youth of Moree. Mission-minded kids are getting together to hold bake sales to help kids in hospital and to buy Bibles for other kids. Evangelist go-getters from the Christian primary school are bringing non-Christian friends along to church socials hosted anywhere from local family’s properties and boats to the waterski park! More and more youth are regularly turning up to Sunday church and connect groups, while a recent youth encounter night drew in 100 young people – not bad for a town of 6,000!
This is a space to watch, to pray for and to sow into!
Pray
For God to send or raise up the Generations Pastor Moree needs!
For confidence and commitment as new young leaders step up into the gaps left by the outgoing Diamonds.
For the discipleship journey of each new Deadly Diamond.
